STD Testing – Why Sexually Active People Should Consider Doing This

For people that are consistently having sexual intercourse with people they have recently met, it is important to consider STD testing to make sure that you have not contracted anything. Those that have one of these conditions may find themselves experiencing many different symptoms including the development of cold sores, rashes, and effects on their immune system and liver that could compromise their health. You may not know that you actually have one since some of them do not actually show symptoms that they are there, usually not for many years. However, when you get STD testing, all of the tests will show what you have, and your doctor will be able to provide you with treatment options.

Which STDs Are The Most Harmful?

Two of the most harmful STDs that you may have include HIV-AIDS which will affect your immune system and hepatitis B which can affect your liver. The first one is not treatable, the second does have some treatment options that your doctor will be able to discuss with you. Others will simply cause problems for you during sexual intercourse such as excessive discharge which can lead to excessive amounts of pain. For all of these reasons, you should go into get regular testing to make sure that you do not have anything that is life-threatening, and if it is easy to clear up, you can take care of that in as little as a couple days.

How Long Will The Testing Take?

If you go in for initial testing, it may only take a few minutes for them to collect the samples that they will need for the testing. If the doctor needs to verify that you do indeed have a sexually transmitted disease that may not have been conclusive with the initial tests, you may have to go back. It is important to always follow your doctor’s recommendations as they are trying to make sure that you do not have a condition that could adversely affect your health. Whether you are diagnosed with syphilis, genital warts, herpes, scabies, or gonorrhea, it’s always good to know what you have, and then consider your treatment options. I took a STD testing in Boulder and it took about 30 minutes, so sometimes it can take longer.

Can You Wait Too Long?

Another concern that many people have is whether or not they have waited too long in order to do the testing and how this will affect their ability to get well. At the very least, making that appointment is a step in the right direction, although it is important to do regular testing to catch things early. For example, if you have gonorrhea or chlamydia, something that will actually be transmitted through sexual intercourse, if not caught early enough by women, it could actually lead to excessive pain, and in the case of gonorrhea, lead to reproductive organ damage. Therefore, the faster that you are able to get into a testing facility, and get the treatment from your physician, the less likely it will be that you will have permanent damage.

You Have To Have Sex To Get STDs?

Most of these are actually transmitted through sex, specifically bodily fluids, but there are others that are not. You can get scabies and crabs from simply being in contact with another person, without actually having intercourse. Regardless of how you have contracted these diseases, it’s always a good idea to get tested to see what you have, and then follow your doctor’s recommendations to the letter. They will know exactly what you have based upon the tests, and once you have completed many of the treatments, you will not have the condition any longer.

The sooner that you are able to get into a testing facility, the faster you will be able to address the problem. Almost all of them have some type of treatment that can help.
